Update on Buyout Progress
Brief reports were given by the Chair (Lincoln Richford), Treasurer (Isobel Gibb) and Secretary (Mac Blewer) on the progress of the buyout. In particular, Lincoln detailed how far we have come as a campaign and where we hope to go over the next 6-12 months. He discussed the field trips that the Trust organized for the village to the Mull of Galloway, Mull and Harris, to meet other land buyout groups. He discussed some of the publicity that we have garnered over the last few years in the national press. Without going into detail of the Buccleuch Negotiations, he also discussed the 4000-acre area in question and where, procedurally, the buyout could go from here. When the negotiations are in a more final stage, the Trust’s consultant, Urban Animation, will release a feasibility study and business plan regarding the buyout area in question and potential uses of the area.

Support for the Railway
It was brought to the Trust’s attention that Harvie Paterson, secretary of the Leadhills and Wanlockhead Railway asked for a vote of support from the Wanlockhead Community Trust for the railway to be extended to the NATS Road. The Wanlockhead Community Trust board members in attendance voted affirmatively and unanimously regarding this proposed initiative.

Concerns were raised by villagers that the Trust needed to do more to update the village via social media, monthly meetings and mailers about the progress of the buyout. This included the procedural and practical steps of what a buyout would look like. Trustees agreed with these concerns.
